Making a Case for America's best college baseball coach
In my opinion, the best college baseball coach is right here in Jacksonville. Coach Jim Case has been a friend of mine for ten years now.
We met at a UAB baseball camp in 1996, when I was in high school at Holly Pond. Coach Case, just like Coach Redus, never doubted my abilities. He was honest with me when it came to the question of whether or not I could pitch at the next level. He made the suggestion that I go the junior college route, and it paid off.
Coach Case has created a very powerful program at Jacksonville State University. More importantly, he is one of the finest people I know. I have many friends in the circle of baseball at a young age, and I am very fortunate for that. It is such a small world that I would end up coaching high school baseball in this area, and living in the town where Coach Case is now.
I followed his career at UAB and Mississippi State while I was playing at Calhoun and Alabama A&M. I was the closer for the first part of my senior season at Alabama A&M, and then due to the lack of opportunities to get saves Coach Wesley gave me a start when we came to play at Jacksonville State. I threw a no-hitter for 6 innings, and then they started getting to me. I had to come out, and we lost to JSU by a score of 7-8. It was the closest game Alabama A&M had with JSU in a long time. After that game, I found myself in the SWAC rotation pitching against Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State, and our rival Alabama State. Coach Case will always be a dear friend of mine.
