Pitchers can improve their pitch location with this simple drill.

Take two pitchers and put them 45 feet apart. One way to measure is to put your “catcher” on the first or third base line, then walk your other pitcher out to line them up with the pitcher’s mound.

From there your pitcher can work on hitting spots and locating pitches. You usually only throw fastballs to see results, but you can throw other types of pitches to get the feel of the grip.

I use the drill for my pitchers to throw a 5-5-5 sequence. They throw 5 outside, 5 middle, and 5 inside. Sometimes we mix it up. It also makes the pitcher concentrate on keeping the pitches down. When they are finished, have the partners switch from pitcher to “catcher.”
