Many of you are probably familiar with the slogan used by the athletic apparel company, Champion Apparel. It states, “It takes a little more to be a champion.”

Oxford and Alexandria know what it means to be champions.

With basketball season under way, I find myself as a coach constantly emphasizing to my players the importance of preparation. A good friend once told of the Five P’s. Proper preparation prevents a poor performance. The Five P’s hold true not only in the game of basketball, but also in the game of life. If you work and prepare during practice then when it’s game time, you’re ready to play.

Sports set the tone for the man I am today. Through tough battles of competition, where I didn’t know if my body could physically and mentally withstand the anguish, sports built character.
