Congratulations to Oxford Majors 2006 All Star Team!! They were the Sub-District 2 & 8 Champions in the O-Zone League and District 8 Runner-Up!! We are going to Troy for the first time in over Twenty (20) something years. Feels good to be a part of a group of kids that love one another despite everyone’s doubts and criticism. God is Good all the time!!! I want to personally congratulate our home run hitters, Gary Mason (5), Zach Cunningham (3), Dion Hobdy (2), and Cody Stewart (1). I want to personally thank the League, Mr. & Mrs. Barry & Joann Britt, Mr. & Mrs. Allen Parnell, Dorsey’s FoodMart, Brian Daughtery, Glen Ray, Jr., Mrs. Becky Strickland & Family, Mason Cleaning Service, Glenn Ray, Sr., Bud Burdette, Ross Handy Mart, Dudley Miller & Miller Funeral Home, Todd Davis & SuperMart, Gary Abbott, Rising Star United Methodist Church, Mrs. Bernadette Isaac, Cornelieus Siding, Faith Baptist Church, Vickie Davidson (for our stars & baseballs), Steven Landers, owner of Quinzo’s in Oxford (for the sack lunches), Rodney Minton (for the bus), & all the parents of these kids who have supported us with the expenses. Yes, I would have to agree with you that it is quite an accomplishment for these boys to be going to state. What with total lack of support from the people back home. These kids have busted their butts to get where they are and all of their parents have busted their wallets to make sure they get there. If not for the awesome coach we have and all the parents doing what they can and a few good local folks and churches helping out, these boys wouldn’t have had a chance to play baseball the way it is supposed to be played…without daddy calling the shots.

The Majors have arrived in Troy, AL. The Majors had an exciting journey to Troy, they stopped by their Coach (Gary Mason) old playing grounds which was Alabama State University and Coach Watkins (Head Baseball Coach for 31 years) gave them a Pep Talk and some stories about their own Coach. Coach Watkins also gave the players two souvenirs: A Pencil for “Education” and an miniature wooden ASU bat. Coach Watkins also Fed the guys and we were back on the Road Again. Thank you Coach Watkins and the ASU Baseball Team.
We (the baseball team) would like to say “THANK YOU” to the OXFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT for the Escort on Friday, July 21, 2006 as we departed our Friendly City. We would also like to Thank, Mayor Leon Smith, City Council and the Friendly City for all their Support.
The All-Stars attended Opening Ceremonies last night at Troy University and had a good ole time!!
Oxford will play Chelsea today (Saturday, July 22, 2006) at 6:00 pm and we will give an update once the game is done. Note: Due to a rainout the game has been re-scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Oxford Majors have made HISTORY, this is the First Year of O-ZONE League Baseball and they are ONE of Twelve Teams to EVER make it to the FIRST State O-ZONE Tournaments. NO OTHER TEAM IN THE CITY OF OXFORD HAS EVER PLAYED IN THE O-ZONE STATE TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!!
Let’s Play Ball Guys!!!!!!!
