HEFLIN — The Heflin Baptist Church Brotherhood hosted their 1st Annual Golf tournament, organized by David Easley, on Saturday, Oct.22, at Cider Ridge Golf Course in Oxford.
Six teams competed for prizes that included golf clubs and balls.
Pastor, Phillip Morris, said over $1200 was raised to benefit local residents and those affected by disaster.
“HEARTS of Cleburne County will be able to use the money to help people with food, utilities, medicine and other needs and that is the greatest benefit.”
Morris said members of Heflin Baptist Church who are part of the Southern Baptist Convention chain saw crews were sent to Orange, TX and Gulf port, MS, which motivated proceeds to also be used for needs in disaster relief.
“We raised money in honor of them and for the people that are in need in those areas. We hope next year is bigger and better!”
The first place team in the best ball tourney, sponsored by Buster Miles Auto Dealerships, was led by John Smith from Tallapoosa, Georgia. Other team members were Dennis Price, Alan Jennings and Ray Roberts.
Alan Jennings took Closest to Pin and Ray Roberts took both Longest Drives. Prizes also went to the third place team, led by Roger Hayes and the fifth place team led by Pastor Philip R. Morris.
