Alexandria honors championship teams
Special to Score!
On Friday, Nov. 18, the Alexandria Elementary School gym was full of excited cheers.
Who wouldn’t be energized after the victories won by Alexandria’s Midget and Pee Wee teams on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Lineville.
Both teams faced Saks for the Coosa Valley Football Championship and walked off the field with championship titles.
Although Saks’ Midget team played hard and did a great job, Alexandria brought home the championship with a final score of 13-12.
For the Pee Wee team, playing Saks in the championship game was a rematch of a regular season game in which Saks defeated the Valley Cubs.
But the previous defeat didn’t keep the Valley Cubs from taking home the Championship, winning 12-0.
Because of these two great victories, there was a pep rally held in the gym at Alexandria Elementary.
To start things off, the band played stand tunes and the cheerleaders performed cheers and chants to get the young students ready to cheer for the football players. Rhonda Smitherman, 2nd grade teacher, then recognized the players.
It was then that the Midget coach Byrd Welch and Pee Wee coach Harold Warren presented their championship trophies.
The Jacksonville State University football players must have known that congratulations were definitely in order. They came to Alexandria and brought their mascot, “Cocky,” to congratulate the two young teams. The rest of the pep rally featured entertainment by the Alexandria High School Band majorettes, dance line and color guard. They ended it with their annual Valley Cub Wave.
