Cleburne County Top Soccer
Players of the Cleburne County Top Soccer league enjoy a recent game. Top Soccer is designed for children with disabilities.
The Cleburne County Top Soccer league is in its second year of play. Under the guidance of Cassie Shelton and Leslie Salter, children with disabilities are once again having fun playing soccer and being a part of a team. Games are played at the Heflin City Football field on Sunday afternoons beginning at 2 p.m.

Buddies assist each athlete to participate in the game. Eighteen Cleburne County high school students have volunteered to help the 22 athletes learn the game of soccer and have an opportunity to participate on a team. Due to differing disabilities most of the athletes do not have a chance to participate in regular athletic activities.

After about an hour of play, the Buddies have a chance to play a game of soccer while the athletes can cheer them on. This year a donation from the Gamma Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization for key women educators in Heflin, has allowed the team to begin play.

Everyone is invited to come out and watch the group as they enjoy the fun of the games. Games are scheduled to continue through Dec. 11, weather permitting.
