Jennings named coach of the year
The 2005 Coosa Valley Football for Youth Pee Wee Coach of the Year is Stacy Jennings from Weaver. This is the second consecutive year that Jennings has been selected for this award by the other coaches in his conference.
What makes this accomplishment even more notable is this is only Jennings’ second year as a head coach … that’s right, he’s two for two.
A graduate of Weaver High School, Jennings was a member of the Bearcats football team from 1984-1988. He began his youth coaching career in 1990 as an assistant with Weaver Youth Football. He assisted for various Weaver youth teams over the next six years before taking a little break.
Coach Stacy’s head coaching debut came in 2004 with the Weaver Midget Football team. The team went 7–3 on the season and were the Runners–up for the small school division championship.
In 2005, Jennings moved up as head coach of the Pee Wee team. He brought his positive attitude, some great team-building skills and about 12 of the midget playes from the previous season. At the beginning of the season, Jennings told his team, “What happens to one of you happens to all of you. Play as a team, and you’ll play for the championship.”
After completing the regular season 6–2 (5–0 in divisional play), the Pee Wee team went on to defeat the Lineville Aggies to become back-to-back Coosa Valley Pee Wee Champions.
When asked about the season, Jennings said, “Knowing how hard these boys worked and how well they’ve worked together, I’m just so proud of each one of them.”
If you have ever tried to get young boys to really focus on one goal and work together as a team, you know that this is no easy task. However, if you were able to witness the ‘BREAKDOWN’ that the Weaver Pee Wee team chants before and every practice or game, their commitment to teamwork is evident, and it can be attributed to a coach who puts kids first.
